About Caleb Grimes
Look at this beautifully proportional butterfly!

This was one of the last times I used watercolor as a kid.
An art teacher told me, “Avoid watercolors, because you can’t control them and they’re just frustrating.” So I avoided watercolors for 30 years!
But I met an artist who changed my whole view on watercolors. She said, “If you can master watercolor, you can master anything!”
I accepted the challenge.
The watercolor painting below means a lot to me, because I faced my watercolor fears. I picked up where I left off by repainting that beautifully proportional butterfly. 😁
Now I love and teach the very thing I tried to avoid for 30 years. I have a wonderful watercolor community with over 400 students and you can join it for free by clicking this link. Lori Warren is one of my students who recently wrote the following quote inside the community:
“A big thank you to Caleb Grimes for starting this online watercolor community and welcoming all levels, but especially for beginners to have a space to learn and share. Having a community like this is something that I feel was missing in the beginning of my watercolor journey and something that would’ve benefited me greatly”

I love seeing students go from, “I don’t think I can do that” to “Wow! I did it!”
Recently my large painting, “Soul Of The Desert” won Best Of Show and the People’s Choice Award! 😁 It’s also available for purchase.
I love rock collecting with my family and panning for gold.
I also love my church family and have been a full time pastor since 2015. If you’re ever in the area, stop by for Sunday worship.
Why Sharks?
Sharks, specifically Great White sharks are very curious and will often poke their heads out of the water or follow boats just to see what's happening, a behavior called spy-hopping. They are also known to be bold.
Curiosity and boldness are two important characteristics of artists who continue to improve. Don’t get stuck in the comfort of familiar, be bold, try new things and attack the blank page!
